Peter Shaw (born 6 November 1942) is a British film producer, known for Champions, Keep the Aspidistra Flying, The Water Babies, The Will to Work, and Enigma.[1][2][3]
Early life
[edit]Shaw was born on 6 November 1942 in Windsor, Berkshire, the son of Thomas William and Margaret Aylwen. He was educated at Eton College, followed by a three-year short service commission in the British Army serving with the Royal Green Jackets.
Career
[edit]In 1970 Shaw identified a pressing need for new, up-to-date management training films. Between 1970 and 1973 he produced eight industrial training films, distributed worldwide by the Rank Organisation, winning a Grierson for "The Will to Work"; meanwhile he expanded his film interests. Peter Shaw entered the film industry in the late 1970s producing numerous Documentaries and TV specials including: Race for the Double Helix, Ghost Hunter, Will to Work, Let's Face It (series), Wind in the Wires, Sport of Kings, Maharajahs, World of Miss World, Victorians, Display etc.
In 1983 he formed and was CEO of United British Artists (UBA)with: Richard Johnson, Albert Finney, Glenda Jackson, John Hurt, Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg, Harold Pinter. In 1995 he became sole owner of UBA.
In addition to his own credits, UBA's credits include: Turtle Diary, Lonely Passion of Judith Hearn, The Biko Inquest, Wind Prints and a number of London theatre productions.
He has produced films with many of the major studios including: Warner Bros, MGM/UA, The Goldwyn Company, The Rank Organisation, Embassy Pictures, Goldcrest, Hallmark, Granada, Showtime.
In 2004 he retired from Production, returning in 2014 to produce the stage musical Water Babies - A Musical Adventure (nominated for best Regional Production award 2014) and the upcoming feature film Girl Magic.
From 2004 - 2010 he was a director of The Douris Corporation Inc, which owned and distributed The Rohauer Library - a collection of 700 classic movie titles - including all the films of Buster Keaton.
