Obituary: Hope Alswang, former Norton Museum CEO, dies at 77
Hope Alswang, former executive director and CEO of the Norton Museum of Art, died June 11 in Providence, Rhode Island, after a brief illness. She was 77.
Over her 50-year career, Ms. Alswang served as the director of three other museums — New Jersey Historical Society in Newark; Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont; and the Art Museum, Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence — as well as director of the Museum Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
Ms. Alswang retired from the Norton in March 2019 after nine years, during which time she oversaw the $100 million-plus Norman Foster-designed expansion of the museum.

In an August 2018 interview with the Palm Beach Daily News, Ms. Alswang said it was hard to top heading up such an enterprise.
