This is a collection of reference files assembled by Library and Archives staff beginning in the 1980s documenting the activities of persons directly associated with the Academy of Natural Sciences and with the study of the natural world more generally. This includes early Academy members, staff, trustees, volunteers, donors, and others associated with the Academy and its specimen collections and environmental research. The collection provides background information often found in secondary and tertiary sources and contains an accumulation of newspaper and magazine clippings, photocopies, publications, press releases, obituaries, ephemera, and other printed materials, dating from approximately 1915 to 2024. Dates of materials within each folder have not been evaluated or recorded. Some files contain extensive information on a particular person, while others hold only a single item. The collection is organized into two separate alphabetical runs of reference files. In some instances, there are files for the same person in both series 1 and series 2.
